ABOUT US — AFRICAN SOUL INTERNATIONAL

We Are African Soul International!

Who We Are

African Soul International (ASI) is a nonprofit arts and education organization founded in 1998 by Dr. Adama “Jewel” Jackson.

What began as a vision to uplift community through culture has grown into a nationally recognized organization dedicated to preserving and presenting authentic African cultural arts.

Through performances, workshops, residencies, and educational programs, African Soul International has impacted over 100,000 lives, empowering youth and communities through African dance, drumming, storytelling, and music rooted in tradition, history, and joy.

Our Approach

African Soul International believes that cultural arts are a powerful tool for education, healing, and connection.

Our programs are designed to engage the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—while honoring the cultural integrity of African traditions.

We Educate

Our programs align with Common Core standards in English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, using arts integration to deepen comprehension, critical thinking, and cultural understanding.

We Inspire

Since 1998, African Soul International has used the arts to foster positive identity, keep youth engaged, and build bridges of compassion and community through meaningful cultural experiences.

We Entertain

Our professional ensemble features master artists from Guinea, Senegal, Mali, Congo, Liberia, and The Gambia, delivering dynamic performances and workshops that are engaging, interactive, and unforgettable.

Our Founder

Dr. Adama “Jewel” Jackson

With over 25 years of study with African Master artists in both the United States and on the African continent, Dr. Jewel has developed a culturally grounded teaching curriculum that educates while preserving tradition.

Her approach centers the cultural significance of movement, rhythm, and song, ensuring that each experience teaches not just the dance, but its history, musical cadence, and meaning.

“We don’t create dances — we preserve authentic African traditions that have been shared for generations.”
